My son right now is serving on an american aircraft carrier. There is no doubt before he left for the warzone he was afraid. I think everyone had some concern when they told there families good bye. But they knew there families and the american people needed their help to fight an enemy that was determined to hurt this country and everyone in it. Right now there are airmen and sailors who are depending on one another to do what is right. They are putting their trust in one another. now thats an example of the definition of courage!
Another example of the true definition of courage and maybe even the most courageous is senator John McCain. Although i may not agree with senator McCain on all his political views i do believe his story is one of the most courageous i know. senator McCain was an american P.O.W. during the Vietnam war. john mccains dad was a navy admiral. because senator mccains dad was an admiral in the navy the viet cong wanted to release john early. john mccain wanted to go home very bad. after all the torture and beatings he really badly wanted to go home. john knew that if he was to take the deal that it would be used against his fellow prisoners to bring their morale down further than it already was. also john knew it would be used as propaganda against the U.S. just writing this makes me feel proud to be an american. Senator John McCain declined the offer to go home early. he chose to wait his turn. little did he know how long it would be before he got to get his release and go home. but in his mind he might have never got to go home which makes his sacrifice and courage all the more awesome. now thats the definition of courage.
Congresswoman gabrielle giffords has also shown courage. The true definition of courage is when a congresswoman wants to talk to her constituents so bad and values their opinion so much that she is willing to risk her life to go in public to talk to them and see what is truly on their minds! The person that shot her had been threatening her life for quite some time. There are alot of things we can say negatively about our politicians in this country so we truly need to talk about their heroics too. I am a conservative republican and congresswoman giffords is a moderate democrat so im not just trying to just say good things about her because i like her politics because i think there are alot of things i would probably disagree with her on. But one thing is for sure the people of Tucson Arizona can stand proud with their heads held high knowing their congresswoman is an awesome example of the true definition of courage.
